Why branding should be beautiful (and effective).
The most important rule
Keep your target the main priority. Because if branding is not effective it has no reason to exist. The funny thing is tho, that in the process it’s important to let go of targets. Clamping on to business results will always block creativity. Creating a strong brand is a dance between beauty and effectiveness. It works best when both are equally important and get the same amount of attention. But in the end, when it’s out there in the world, it has to contribute to hitting the business targets. Period.
For business owners: Give room for creatives to be creative.
For creatives: Let the juices flow and re-focus on the targets regulary.
What is beauty?
Well... context is everything. In the case of branding, beauty is whatever appeals to your audience and raises the quality of your product. Beauty is something different for a woman with a luxurious lifestyle than it is for the average construction worker. And still the quality of the branding content can be approached the same way.
Beauty is a showstopper though. It should be jawdropping good. With a quality stamp that defines you as the market leader. Beauty just doesn’t mess around. It goes straight to the heart, bypassing the critical mind.
With the sheer amount of marketing content being targetted at people, everyone is getting more resilient to it. Which makes it harder to actually touch someone. It raises the bar for content creators. Therefor it raises the bar for businesses. And if there’s one thing in this realm that’s more effective than anything else… it’s beauty.
Swords shouldn’t break
It seems obvious. When you’re sword fighting… like we do… it would be very bad if your sword breaks. The weakness of your tool will cost you your life. So it has to be strong. And of all the swords our history has seen the Katana is the most famous. It is still being made for collectors and a handfull of crazy martial arts people.
A Katana sword is 100% functional AND 100% beautiful. It’s strong, sharp and deadly. And you look good on the job. What more can you wish for?
Reconsider your branding
The big brands win the competition. Every time. The more they win > the bigger the brand > the more they win > etc. And they adapt. Constantly. It works.
